Child Abuse and Neglect
If we receive a call concerning the abuse or neglect of a child, we will immediately refer the caller to the Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) Hotline at 877-NJ ABUSE (877-652-2873). We will inform the caller that they are mandated under law to contact DYFS and we will follow-up with DYFS to make sure they have been contacted.
Complaint Against a Child Care Center
Complaints against a child care center (excluding abuse and neglect) are referred to the NJ Bureau of Licensing at (609) 987-2027. The Bureau is the licensing agent for child care centers and therefore investigates all complaints.
Complaints Against Family Child Care Providers
Complaints against Family Child Care Providers (excluding abuse and neglect) are investigated by Community Child Care Solutions. As the registering agent for family child care in Middlesex and Somerset counties, it is our responsibility to investigate and document all complaints. When a call is received, a Child Care Specialist records all the appropriate information. This information is then given to a Child Care Specialist who will make an unannounced visit to the provider in question. If the Specialist can substantiate the complaint, the provider will be counseled and the complaint will be placed in their file. All complaints are investigated within 10 working days. Complaints may be made anonymously.
